For those still having trouble accessing the NIST FTP site:
If ftp.nist.gov cannot lookup the network address (a.k.a. IP
address) of a computer, it refuses the connection. As more
and more people are connecting from home via their ISPs
(Internet Service Providers), this is getting to be more and
more of a problem, because ISPs often do not maintain the
database entries required for ftp.nist.gov to lookup a
computer's network address. (Of course, when a computer
connects to ftp.nist.gov, it provides its network address,
but ftp.nist.gov is looking for independent verification.)
If possible, have your ISP put their computer's name and IP
address into DNS, which is the database ftp.nist.gov queries
for independent verification. DNS stands for Domain Name
Server.
