greetings,
Kevin and I both have new versions of FDS 4.0 and Smokeview 4.0 for you to
test. These test releases can be downloaded from http://fire.nist.gov/fds/svtest (The
FDS ftp site is linked from here)
FDS
New versions of FDS version 4 (serial and parallel) have been placed on the
FTP site. We've noticed that running the parallel version over a 100 megabit
network can be slow if there is much information to pass. To compensate, we've
reduced the amount of information that needs to be passed.
SMOKEVIEW A couple of new features have been added to Smokeview that you may
find useful and need testing.
1) For slice files, particle files and plot3d files you can use the
"Set Bounds" dialog box to mask data from being drawn. (data below
one value and/or above another value). For example, you
can visualize only the "hot" portion of a ceiling jet by specifying that
temperature data below some temperature, say 200 C, not be drawn. The two
attached files illustrate how to specify the chop values and what the resulting
slice file looks like.
2) Smokeview is moving towards allowing you to specify an arbitrary
path to move along as you view a scene. The first step has been
implemented, being able to save an arbitrary number of views. For example,
using the "movement" dialog box, you can now move the scene into the "living
room" and save it, move the scene into the "kitchen" and save it etc. You
can also cycle between these views. The next step (which is not
implemented yet) is to move smoothly and gradually between the views that you
specify.
As always, keep us abreast of progress with the new material. -
Glenn, Kevin
