In OP-SF Net 1.2, Topic #3, an announcement was given of the
concentration period on Representation Theory and q-Special Functions,
Universities of Leiden and Amsterdam, Netherlands, April-June 1994.
A more detailed program is now available.
There will be three courses, each consisting of four 90 minute lectures:

R. Askey (Madison, USA) will deliver the (opening) Stieltjes Lecture at
the 30th Dutch Mathematical Congress (Leiden, 7-8 April). The title is:
"The continuing impact of the work of Stieltjes".
F. Calogero (Rome, Italy), I.V. Cherednik and A.N. Varchenko (both
Chapel Hill, NC, USA), P.I. Etingof and A. Kirillov, Jr. (both
New Haven, Connecticut, USA) , Ph. Hanlon (Ann Arbor, Michigan, USA),

The First International Conference on Difference Equations

May 25-28, 1994
The conference will be devoted to various aspects of difference
equations, including oscillation theory, asymptotic behavior,
stability, control theory, numerical methods of solution, chaos,
applications to special functions, applications to combinatorics,
functional equations, and related topics.
Invited speakers: C. Ahlbrandt, B. Aulbach, J. Cushing, R. Mickens,
T. Sauer, D. Siljak, D. Trigiante, J. Wimp.
In addition, there will be sessions with contributed twenty minute
lectures, and Professor G. Ladas will conduct afternoon workshops on
open problems. It is the intention to publish Conference Proceedings,
containing only refereed papers.

International Workshop on Finite Dimensional Integrable Systems
Dubna, Russia, 8-21 July 1994
The following topics will be discussed:
- Construction, classification and integration of classical
and quantum integrable systems with n degrees of freedom.
- Relation between finite and infinite dimensional systems,
loop algebra approaches.
- Supersymmetry aspects of integrable systems.
- Modern aspects of integrability: quantum group aspects,
quadratic algebras, other types of symmetries.
- Separation of variables, special functions, q-special functions,
q-groups.
There will be invited talks (40 minutes) and contributed talks
(20 minutes). A volume of abstracts will be available at the beginning
of the Workshop. Proceedings are planned to be published after the
Workshop. The Organizing Committee consists of :

Subject: Minisymposium "Special Functions and Asymptotics"
(third announcement)
As announced in OP-SF Net 1.2, Topic #4, Charles F. Dunkl (University
of Virginia) and Martin Muldoon (York University, Canada) will
organize a minisymposium on "Special Functions and Asymptotics" at the
SIAM Annual Meeting, San Diego, July 25-29, 1994. Here are a couple of
updates to the information given there.
1. Additional speaker:
Roderick Wong (City Polytechnic of Hong Kong), "Uniform Asymptotic
Expansion of an Oscillatory Integral".
2. The preliminary printed program to be distributed by SIAM has
the Minisymposium scheduled in two sessions on Friday, July 29.
We are working on a rescheduling which would have four of the talks
on an earlier day. Details will be given in a later Newsletter.

in Russia.

Subject: Mathematica packages HYP and HYPQ
Christian Krattenthaler has developed a couple of Mathematica
packages, called HYP and HYPQ. The first is for the manipulation of
binomial and hypergeometric series, while the second deals with
q-binomial and basic hypergeometric series. New versions have now
become available. In detail, HYP provides tools for:
(A) manipulating factorial expressions
(B) transforming binomial sums into hypergeometric notation
(C) summing hypergeometric series
(D) transforming hypergeometric series
(E) applying contiguous relations
(F) doing formal limits of hypergeometric expressions
(G) transforming hypergeometric expressions into TeX-code
(H) Using the Gosper and Zeilberger algorithms
HYPQ provides tools for analogous work with q-factorials, q-binomials,
q-hypergeometric series, etc.
The packages are available by anonymous ftp from
pap.univie.ac.at in directory MATHEMATICA.HYP_HYPQ
There is a read.me file available for further instructions.
