The next biannual conference on SIDE (Symmetries and Integrability of
Difference Equations) will be held in Helsinki, Finland, June 19-24,
2004.

This meeting is the second in a series of two, devoted to discrete
systems and their integrability and symmetries (the first took place in
Giens, France, 2002). This second conference emphasises linear and

A number of grants covering the twin room Conference Fee and possibly
some travel costs will be available, from the EuroConferences Activity
of the European Union, for young researchers (35 or under) who are
nationals of a Member State of the European Union or of an Associated
State and who are active inside or outside these Member or Associated
States at the time of the event.

Estonia, Hungary, Iceland, Israel, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania,

Venue


The conference will take place at the Kallvik Conference Centre
(Kokouskeskus Kallvik), 17 km East of Helsinki. The centre is situated
located in a wooded park, directly on the Gulf of Finland. There are
excellent public transport facilities so participants can make their own
way to the conference site in the afternoon of arrival day, 19 June 2004
.. Group transportation (two transfer buses) will be organised to the
airport after lunch on departure day, 24 June 2004

Purpose and Scope:
An international conference on recent developments in combinatorics,
special functions, and mathematical physics as well as applications to
science, in honor of the 75th birthday of James D. Louck and his
remarkable contributions in the pursuit of the role of symmetry and
combinatorics in physical theory. We welcome contributions in the fields
of classical combinatorics, special functions, representation theory and
symmetric functions, discrete dynamical systems, statistical mechanics,
computational biology, quantum angular momentum theory and unitary
symmetries.


Deadline:
 Abstracts in Latex, or TeX format should be submitted via email to the
conference secretary Ms. Rosena Du at rosenadu@sohu.com by April 29,
2004.


Registration Fee:
$120.00 (or $60 for a student), including meals and a banquet.


Location of Tianjin:
Tianjin is the third largest city in China. It is close to Beijing. It
takes about 2 hours to drive to Beijing from Tianjin on a modern
tollway. There are also convenient fast train and bus services. The
transportation (including airport pickups) will all be taken care of by
the local organizers (and will be arranged in advance). For most cases,
you should fly into Beijing, and we will arrange the transportation from
the Beijing airport to Tianjin. In any case, don't panic, and you don't
need to speak Chinese.

We will publish proceedings of the workshop in a special
volume of JOURNAL OF COMPUTATIONAL AND APPLIED
MATHEMATICS. All contributions will be peer-reviewed
according to the standards of the journal. Further information
will be given at the workshop.


4) Support --------------------------------------------------


There is the possibility to obtain limited support for
people who do not have another source of financial support.
We therefore encourage especially young researchers to

Subject: Two identities for the hypergeometric function


In my research work on the Poisson integral for a ball in non-euclidean spaces I
have obtained (as consequences) two identities for the hypergeometric function.
I
would like to know whether these identities are already known and, if not,
whether there could be a way to prove them directly by other techniques. As a
matter of fact, the first identity was communicated last October by Professor
Nico Temme to OP-SF Talk, but there was no response.

CALL FOR NOMINATIONS:
SIAM/ACM Prize in Computational Science and Engineering


The SIAM/ACM Prize in Computational Science and Engineering will be
awarded for the second time at the SIAM Conference on Computational
Science and Engineering to be held February 12-15, 2005, in Orlando,
Florida.


The prize was established in 2002 and first awarded in 2003.  It is
awarded every other year by the Society for Industrial and Applied
Mathematics (SIAM) and the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) in
the area of computational science in recognition of outstanding
contributions to the development and use of mathematical and
computational tools and methods for the solution of science and
engineering problems.


Eligibility
The prize is intended to recognize either one individual or a group of
individuals for outstanding research contributions to the field of
computational science and engineering.  The contribution(s) for which
the award is made must be publicly available and may belong to any
aspect of computational science in its broadest sense.


Description of the prize
The award will include a total cash prize of $5,000 and a certificate
containing the citation.  SIAM will reimburse reasonable travel expenses
to attend the award ceremony.

The SIAM Activity Group on Orthogonal Polynomials and Special Functions
consists of a broad set of mathematicians, both pure and applied.  The
Group also includes engineers and scientists, students as well as
