Outcome of the TREC-9 meeting on the video track

Colleagues

There was a 1-hour meeting of those interested in the TREC video track
at last week's TREC-9 conference at NIST, as well as much offline
discussion. As a result, Paul Over has put together a web page which
will act as an "information center" for current thinking on how the
details of the track can be formulated and agreed (URL a.t the end)

Remember, this can be your TREC video track as much as it can be anybody
else's ... we encourage lots of participation and guidance on how the
TREC task can be formulated and evaluated and it should be a real
collaborative effort.

Off the webpage we have a link to a summary of the discussion at the
meeting which has pointers to the possible data sources (NIST and Open
Video). This is an important page as it summaries where we think the
direction of the track is going, but there are still lots of unanswered
questions so there is a role for involvement in deciding these things if
you wish to get involved.

Please share this information with colleagues you think may be
interested and if you are unclear on any of the points made then come
back to me ... if you are unclear it means that others are probably also
unclear so getting back to me for clarification may clear things up for
lots of people.
