Call for confirmation of who will make what feature extractions available, and when

Dear TREC Video Folks

I suppose many of you are like us, busily working away on indexing and
building a user interface to our TREC2002 video work, and if so, then
you've probably identified a similar problem to us.

We would like to use the output of the feature detections derived by
other groups, in our search work but the problem with this is that:

(a) the schedule provides for these features to be available on 1
August, the same date as the search topics are made available, and that
doesn't give us much time to "play" with them in our retrieval system

and

(b) we don't actually know who, if anybody, is going to make available
the MPEG-7 encoded output of their feature extraction so we could wind
up having a wonderful interface and search engine support for
indoor/outdoor (say) but no data to work on.

So, for each of you who are willing to make the output of your feature
extraction available to the search task participants, can you send a
message to Paul and Ramazan detailing

- what feature extraction set you intend to make available to the track
- when you will make this available

The schedule for this says August 1 but any date earlier than this helps
the search task participants greatly. Paul and Ramazan will compile
the list and make it available on the track guidelines page (as well as
posting a message to this list to inform us, thanks Paul). If anybody
needs any assistance in MPEG-7 encoding their feature extraction
outputs, then Jiamin Ye <jiaminye@computing.dcu.ie> is very willing to
help out.

In retrospect we should probably have fixed the feature detection dates
as earlier, allowing their outputs to be more seamlessly integrated as
input into the search task, but we live and learn !

Thanks.

- Alan
