Hi,
Two more tips for using the VideoAnnEx system:
(1) User ID is case sensitive. For instance, if you use the id:
"Ching-Yung" when you registered, you should not use "ching-yung" when you
log in. Different cases may cause problem in the system.
(2) Remember to annotate regions.
Annotation guidelines are at
http://mp7.watson.ibm.com/projects/VideoCAforum.html.
Regards,
Ching-Yung

| Subject: [TRECVID] Annotation forum -- first round completed, second round started |
>-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------|
Dear colleagues,
Thanks very much for the hard work from everyone in the annotation forum.
I'm very glad to announce that our first round of annotation has completed.
If you are a member of the annotation forum, you should be able to download
the first round of annotation from the VideoAnnEx Server. [at the
Annotation Availability page]. All 37 videos (about 16.5 hours) are
annotated in the region level.
The second round of annotation has started. Thanks to CLIPS for
providing the shot segmentations for the development set. I've assigned the
132 videos, that exclude the 2 abnormal videos in Paul Over's previous
email. Most groups are assigned 4 to 7 videos, depending on how many they
annotated in the first round and how many members in their group. Note
that the deadline of the second round of annotation is June 30, 2003.
Some common problems in the first-round of annotation:
1.) You don't have to annotate a parent node, if one of its child
node is selected. For instance, if you select "male_face", you don't need
to check "face."
2.) Please turn on the speaker to listen to and annotate audio
content.
3.) All shots, including news and commercials, need to be annotated.
If there is nothing in a shot, then you don't need to annotate it.
4.) Please use the merge/split function in the tool to generate a
better segmentation. (Merge: select a shot in the Shots view, then right
click the mouse to merge it to previous shot. Split: select a frame in the
Frames view, then right click the mouse to split the shot.). According to
Georges' info, the CLIPS shots may be over-segmentated to minimize the
false negative. Thus, please be sure adjacent shots are merged. Also, you
can select a better keyframe to present the shot (by double-click on the
keyframe in the Frames view).
Also, thanks a lot for numerous feedback from forum participants.
According to those feedback, I have updated a new version of client:
VideoAnnEx v2.1.1. This new version includes the new features such as: (1)
cut, copy, paste, append and delete labels in the shots, and (2)
maximization function which allows those users who have large screens to
work more efficiently. Please contact your group administrator for this
new tool. Also, please note that if you download this tool and use it,
that means you've agreed with the license agreements at the Help -> About
menu of the tool. If you don't accept the license agreements, please don't
use or download this tool from your group administrator. This annotation
tool is for evaluation only and is only good for 90 days.
For group administrators, you can download the FRPs from this URL:
http://mp7.watson.ibm.com/projects/TREC2003-Development-FRPs.zip, and put
those FRP files at the same directory of your development set videos. This
will save your annotator's time from waiting for the tool to generate this
reference file.
If there is any question, please feel free to let me know. Any comment/
feedback will be very appreciated.
Best Regards,
Ching-Yung
