TRECVID update

Hi,

Please forgive double posting to trecvid and trecvid2004, but in case
you haven't noticed...

All the workshop papers and slides we have from TREDVID 2003 are available
to anyone off a new link from the main TRECVID page under "Publications".
We plan to keep them there and add papers/slides or replace with final
versions. So the URL can be used for citations. For the first two years the
papers are of course to be found on the TREC publications pages. Links
to those are included.

Under the "Guidelines" link is one for a page of issues from the
final discussion at TRECVID 2003. If I've forgotten or misstated
something please email me directly. These are things to be considered
as we finalize the guidelines for TRECVID 2004 during February of
2004. In the meantime we're proceeding with the plans for a second year
of ABC/CNN news and roughly the same tasks.

In the "Results" section of the Guidelines for active participants
only (until 1. Feb 2004) are all now the submissions, evaluated
submissions, as well as the results with full run IDs. After 1. Feb
these will no longer be password-protected.

Here is the main TRECVID page: <http://www-nlpir.nist.gov/projects/trecvid/>

The call for TRECVID 2004 will go out in mid-January with applications
due by mid-Feb. Interested new groups should be advised to contact
lori.buckland@nist.gov and ask to be added to the trecvid list so they get
the call. I hope we can agree on the guidelines including the 2004 schedule
by 1. March.

A decision on whether to apply as a workshop attached to ACM MM '04 in
New York City (Oct) or stay attached to TREC (Nov) will need to be
made by end of January. During January we will know more about the
availability of the additional 80 hrs of ABC/CNN test data planned
for 2004.

Happy Holidays,
Paul
