Hi,
Appended is a short version of the call to participate in the Video
Retrieval Evaluation (TRECVID) 2004. Feel free to pass it on to
interested parties.
As indicated below, the full call appears on the TRECVID website. As
the full call explains, the brief application for participation in
TRECVID 2004 should be made to NIST by 16. February 2004.
A new email discussion list has been set up for use by active
participants in TRECVID 2004 (trecvid2004@nist.gov) - mainly starting
in late February. The full call explains its role.

Call for Participation
TREC Video Retrieval Workshop (TRECVID)
January 2004 - October/November 2004
Conducted by:
National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST)
With support from:
Advanced Research and Development Activity (ARDA)
National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST)
In 2001 and 2002 the Text Retrieval Conference (TREC) series, which
encourages and facilitates research in information retrieval,
sponsored a video track devoted to research in automatic segmentation,
indexing, and content-based retrieval of digital video. Beginning in
2003, this track became an independent 2-day workshop taking place
just before TREC.
The 2004 workshop will complete the second year of a 2-year cycle
addressing shot boundary determination, story segmentation, feature
extraction, and search tasks using news video from 1998 in MPEG-1
format. It will either be attached to the ACM Multimedia Conference in
New York City in October or to TREC in Gaithersburg, Maryland in November.
Dissemination of TRECVID work and results other than in the (publicly
available) workshop proceedings is welcomed, but the conditions of
participation specifically preclude any advertising claims based on
TRECVID results. All retrieval results submitted to NIST are
published in the Proceedings and are archived on the public portions
of TRECVID web site. TRECVID participants must submit results for at
least one task in order to attend the workshop.
The complete call for participation is available on the TRECVID home page,
